Feis is Registered and will be governed by the Rules of An Coimisiun le Rinci Gaelacha (CLRG) and the IDTANA MidAtlantic Region, Inc (www.MID-ATLANTICREGION.COM). The Feis At Kalahari Committee, Emerald Isle Academy, Hester Academy of Irish Dance, Hooley Irish Dance, Kotelnicki School of Irish Dance, Kalahari Resorts, or any other organizations affiliated with the aforementioned will not be held responsible for personal injury, property loss or damage. Open to all dancers. Dancers will perform a traditional set of their choice, 2 at a time, at the traditional speed. Special prizes are are awarded in this dance.

Team must enter in the age group of oldest dancer. The team captain will register for the team and will wear the team number. Dancers may compete on two teams in the same competition (i.e. a girls and mixed).

*2hands will be 48 bars long.
*4hands have choice of 4hand Reel OR Humours of Bandon, and choice of figure A or B.
*8hands have choice of dance and figure.

Open to all dancers ages 21 and over. Dancers will perform 16 bars of a hard or soft shoe reel. Dancers will each receive a glass cup, and the winner will win a bottle of tequila.

ADULT DANCERS

An Adult dancer is a dancer who began taking Irish Dance lessons after the age of 18 or an adult who hasn’t taken Irish Dancing lessons in the previous 5 years and has not competed as a “child” in the previous 5 years. Adult dancers may not be combined with any other age group.

 

Music speeds for Beginner/AB are Reel/Slip Jig 122; Light Jig 115; Hop Jig 124; Treble Jig 92; Hornpipe 138. Speeds for Novice/PW are Reel/Slip Jig 113; Light Jig 115; Treble Jig 73 or 92; Hornpipe 113 or 138.

Adult female dancers must wear black tights in all competitions.

This is a Pre-Beginner competition for any dancer Under 6 who has 0 Reels prepared to full speed music. Dancer could do a step slowly, or show us their own fun version of hopping, skipping, and jumping! 16 bars of a reel, Tempo 122, will be played for 1 dancer at a time. All dancers will receive a participation award on stage. NO SOLO COSTUMES ALLOWED, Skirt and blouse or school costumes ONLY.

This is a Pre-Beginner competition for any dancer Under 8 who has 1 Reel prepared to full speed music. They will dance 1 reel step, 1 dancer at a time, and all dancers will receive a participation award on stage. Competitors may not compete in any other dancing competitions. A Beginner is a competitor who has not taken Irish Dancing lessons from a registered teacher prior to September 1st of the previous year. Dancer must move into Advanced Beginner the following year. No solo costumes are allowed.


Skirts, trousers, blouses, shirts, or school costumes ONLY. An Beginner dancer will perform 2 Steps, 2 at a time. Video recording IS permitted. No facial makeup U6-U12.

An Advanced Beginner dancer has taken lessons from a registered teacher for more than 1 year. An Advanced Beginner who wins 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place will advance to the Novice category in that particular dance the next year. No solo costumes are permitted. Skirt, trousers, blouses, shirts, or school costumes ONLY. An Advanced Beginner dancer will perform 2 Steps, 2 at a time. Video recording IS permitted. No makeup permitted to be worn, except in 12&Over age.

PRELIMINARY CHAMPION

A dancer who has placed 1st in both light and heavy Open dances and has never won 1st, 2nd or 3rd in Open Championship. Preliminary dancers who win three (3) 1st places in a calendar year, must move to Open Championships the following calendar year. When a third 1st place win is achieved over several calendar years, the dancer must move to Open Championships the following weekend. (Dancers coming from out of region will follow the move- up rules for THEIR region.) Video recording is NOT permitted.

 

Must dance either Reel (48 bars) OR Slip Jig (40 bars) and Hornpipe (40 bars) OR Treble Jig (48 bars) please specify on your entry form.

 

Order/rotation for Preliminary Championships will be drawn for you.
